How. Does. Change. Happen?
Thinking back to the times before I was introduced to Moon Ceremony, I’m filled with gratitude at how this transformative practice gave me the keys to greater access my personal power and authentic self. Layers of myself became easier to peel back, gaze lovingly at, and release a vice-like grip over my life.
I visualize something similar to this filled trash before beginning Self-Healing work began for me. So much unwanted, unhelpful garbage filling my insides, keeping me from making room to let any goodness in. Every hurt, insult, bully, trauma that I’d stashed away, unable to look at because it was too painful ate away at me, inside. Alcohol became a way for me to numb my pain, because when I was inebriated, I didn’t have to look at it.
Full Moon Logistics
It’s no secret that the moon has many gravitational effects on our planet. Our tides ebb and flow as the moon passes through her cycles. As our bodies are comprised of 60-70% water, many believe that the moon’s gravitational pull effects us powerfully as well.
Full Moon Fun Facts:
- Many of our nation's systems are affected and experience increased numbers during a Full Moon. ie, Hospital ER, Police Stations, Orthodontist offices (funny enough, an increase in broken brackets from eating things they shouldn’t!)
- The word lunacy -- latin root, luna (AKA the Moon as causation for spiked energy): the state of being a lunatic; insanity (not in technical use).
- Farmer’s utilize moon cycles for bountiful crop harvests.
A Full Moon is a time of celebration and harvest. The Moon is fully illuminated and that light from the Sun reflects onto us, it helps us see clearly what’s moving within. This is a time to reap the benefits of two weeks of tending the seeds, reassess what’s been working, and release what hasn’t assisted in the growth process.
This Full Moon in Virgo is a lovely time of bringing the helper-healer energy of the virgin to life. Virgo is a mutable Earth sign; mutable, meaning, of the Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) she is the most free-flowing and able to go with the flow in times of change. Virgo energy is detail-oriented, perfectionist, balanced in emotion. These are aspects we are supported in aligning with during this time. It is especially helpful to look at which house the Full Moon in Virgo passes through. See whether it forms aspects in your chart and which area (house) you are supported in bringing the Virgo energy to.
For example, the Full Moon will be at 11°22’ Virgo on March 2, at 4:51 pm PST. In my birth chart (shown below), I can see that will be in my third house. The third house rules the mind and intellect. On a deeper level it reveals how you approach and analyze problems, and how you perceive information. Basically, it drives overall learning and communicative processes. For example, this house administers skills in writing, editing, speaking, thinking, reading, and conducting research. The way I interpret this for myself is that I can feel I’m moving into a space of communicating, writing, thinking and speaking more cleverly more truthfully and unapologetically. I am finding ease at expressing and drawing out the internal processes I’m ready to communicate, as I feel it’s a part of my life’s purpose to share methods of self-healing and spiritual expansion.
Your life and processes will look different than any other individual you know, keep that in mind and be patient with yourself.
Enter : Full Moon Ceremony
Sometimes the word Ceremony can feel heavy, or incredibly serious. My take on ceremony is to bring forth the energy that’s circulating within you. Every month is different for me, I like to keep the tone a mystery until I approach my altar, or wherever I’m holding ceremony. New Moons, I generally like to do alone, for the vulnerable and internal time. Full Moons, I love gathering with Spirit Sisters, my group that I feel comfortable and excited to meet with.
Tools to have on hand:
- Smudge stick/spray (sage, rosemary, lavender, palo santo, incense, copal, whatever is sacred and you like the scent of!)
- Paper and pen
- Bowl of water
- Candle/s
- Pillow/blanket (whatever else makes you feel relaxed and comfortable!)
As a precursor, these ideas are a loose set of guidelines, I invite you to flow naturally and have FUN with this practice! Change things up from month to month and see what truly works for you.
I love to have soft, relaxing music in the background. Recently (I just returned from a songwriting retreat in Hawaii!), this Dolphin Song meditation music has been my go-to. Generally, clearing the energy of the space is invited, whether you have a smudge stick, spray, palo santo wood, copal incense or resin. Light it and go around your house in a clock-wise circle with intent to clear the space to provide a foundation to work upon. When you’re ready, light a candle to call yourself present to this sweet, uninterrupted time of self-reflection. I like to start with a few minutes of meditation to clear my mind and drop into the space. As you’re ready, sit and reflect the energies that are circulating with this Full Moon energy.
Some questions to ask yourself:
- What has been working well for me recently?
- Is there anything that’s been coming up that would serve my Highest Good to release/let go?
- What would I like to celebrate in my life tonight? What am I grateful for?
I encourage writing these answers down. The act of expressing our emotions and thoughts on paper or through voice is incredibly liberating, and empowering. If there is a particular blockage that has been tough to let go, a lot of times, I’ll write it down on the paper, tear it out, and sit with myself, imagining my life without this blockage holding me captive. As I’m ready (and not a moment sooner!) I’ll light the paper in the flame of the candle, and watch it burn up. Sit with yourself as long as you’d like. Take pride in the decision to grow your connect with your Spirit and Soul.
