Meet the Tribe is an ongoing blog series where you’ll meet women who are leaders in their community and here at YogaClub. Our ambassadors, or Tribe Leaders as we call them, are fitness instructors, wellness professionals and just plain awesome women.
Born and raised in Italy, this Tribe Leader joined us state-side unexpectedly 10 years ago when her husband was injured in Afghanistan. Just like a beautiful lotus that blooms from the mud, gaining her as a family member from a difficult experience has been a blessing for us. This former lawyer reinvented herself through fitness after moving to the states a decade ago. She now teaches a variety of fitness classes in San Antonio, Texas and has been practicing yoga for five years.
Meet Mara Dunn.
Q: Let’s talk overall wellness. How do you maintain balance?
A: By accepting my limits.
Q: What are your favorite wellness tips?
A: Always LISTEN to your body! And leave the pride out of the studio. If a certain exercise is giving you pain or discomfort, or if you can't perform it with proper technique, please, don’t feel bad about modifying or even pausing for a second or two. Fitness is a journey.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about YogaClub?
A: I simply adore the friendships I am building through the YogaClub community! I am so far away from my loved ones and I really treasure these new friendships. Also, the wonderful clothes at a very cheap price of course!!!!
Q: What advice can you give to someone looking to begin their fitness or wellness journey?
A: Like I said, always listen to your body and leave the pride out of the studio. And, on top of that, if you can (and I know that we all have our limits, time and money wise!) seek the help of a professional. Even if it’s just a couple of sessions to put you on the right track.
Q: What does being a Tribe Leader mean to you?
A: Being part of community and possibly inspiring others to start a journey of wellness.
Q: Alright, let’s mix it up with some fun, quick fire questions. Do you have a quote or mantra that inspires you?
A: Soooo many!!!!!! If I have to choose one: “Per aspera ad astra,” the Latin phrase meaning "through hardship to the stars."
Q: Fave YogaClub brands
A: Niyama Sol
Q: Do you open your box right away or wait until you need a pick me up?
A: Right away
Q: Watch an episode every week or binge watch it all?
A: I don't binge watch…I marathon watch!!!
Q: Your holiday season weakness?
A: Pandoro, a traditional Italian bread.
Q: Current obsession?
A: YogaClub!
