Meet the Tribe is an ongoing blog series where you’ll meet women who are leaders in their community and here at YogaClub. Our ambassadors, or Tribe Leaders as we call them, are fitness instructors, wellness professionals and just plain awesome women.
Fitness isn’t just a hobby for this Tribe Leader, it’s a lifestyle. She takes on all the titles of motivator, educator and leader, and wears them proudly! Achieving both her Bachelors and Masters in the world of fitness, she took her expertise to Chicago to work with Row House, a fitness center that offers rowing-based workout regimes.
Meet Courtney Paige Johnson.
What motivates you?
A: I’m motivated by growth and progress. I love completing tasks and goals, and the feeling that comes along with the sense of accomplishment. In my particular field of work, increasing engagement and participation is so motivating because I know more people are getting active and finding enjoyable ways to take care of their bodies, minds and souls!
What’s your favorite thing about YogaClub?
A: I love the surprise of opening my new box every month and trusting someone else to style me! I am not a huge shopper and sometimes forget to treat myself. YogaClub has been an amazing way to reward myself for all the physical activity I do, without forgetting!
What are your favorite wellness tips?
A: Listen to your body! If you’re tired, rest. If you’re hungry, eat. If you’re anxious, move! Our bodies know what we need and the more self-aware we can become the more we can find our balance. Wellness looks different for everyone. I look at 8 dimensions: physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, occupational, environmental, financial, and social.
How do you maintain balance?
A: I strive for balance, but each week and even each day is completely different. Listening to my body helps. Again, I look at the 8 dimensions of wellness and sometimes even color a wellness wheel to visually lay out my own perceived wellness. This shows the dimensions I feel strongest in and the others I may be neglecting.
What advice can you give to someone looking to begin their fitness or wellness journey?
A: Sometimes you just need to find that inner push and go do anything! Take a walk, go the the gym, try a new fitness class - but just go! Once you do, it will be easier to go the next day. I always say objects at rest stay at rest and objects in motion stay in motion, and I think that holds true to us. If you can just give yourself a little nudge, the rest will be easier!
What does being a Tribe Leader mean to you?
A: Sharing the excitement of YogaClub with my network and community! I view my monthly box as a way to reward myself for my physical activity and love giving the option to others as well.
