People love yoga for all kinds of reasons--whether for a low impact workout or to master meditation, yoga is here to stay. What some yogis may not know though is that yoga’s physical benefits aren’t just for flexibility. Yoga can actually improve your skin!
Yes, believe it or not, yoga actually can help you achieve that radiant complexion we all crave! With the right poses, you can make your skin look supple and healthier than ever. Go ahead and try:
Tadasana
Tadasana, or mountain pose, in a great way to begin your practice--and a great way to get some oxygen to your skin. Stand firmly on your mat with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms at your sides. Focus on your breathing and engage your muscles with each breath. This pose will wake you up, get you ready for a great practice, and help your skin find a healthy, natural glow.
Bharadvaja’s twist
Most of us indulge in a little junk food now and then - and when you do, this pose is a great way to save your skin by squeezing those toxins. Sit on your rear with your legs out in front of you, then fold both legs over to left side. Put your right hand on the ground behind you and twist at the waist. When you’re done, repeat on the other side.
Halasana
The plow pose is a great asana for any yogi’s goal. It boosts metabolism, relieves lower back pain and also pushes blood towards your upper body, which gives your cheeks a healthy, rosy glow. Start flat on your back, then lift your legs into the air. Roll your spine until your toes rest on the ground behind your head. Hold the pose as long as you can, and don’t forget to breathe!
Matsyasana
To do matsyasana (the fish pose), lie on your back with your hands tucked under your hips. Slowly arch your back, keeping your head connected to the ground. Hold this pose for at least a minute, then slowly uncurl the neck and spine to return to your starting position. This pose stretches the muscles in the face and neck, which can help those yogis trying to get rid of a double chin!
Bhujangasana
Are you looking for a yoga pose that will elongate your spine, open your chest, and oxygenate your skin cells to make them look brighter? Bhujangasana (also known as cobra pose) is one you won’t want to miss out! Lay on your stomach with your hands resting flat beside your shoulders. Push up with your upper body to open the chest and stretch the belly and back. Hold the pose and breathe.
When you incorporate these poses into your regular yoga practice, you’ll be amazed at the improvement in your overall health. Your body will be stronger and your limbs more flexible, of course, but the changes in your skin will be downright astonishing. Good-bye tired, dull skin; hello bright, healthy, smooth, and clear skin! So, the next time you step up to the mat, don’t forget these asanas; your skin will thank you.
