Meet the Tribe is an ongoing blog series where you’ll meet women who are leaders in their community and here at YogaClub. Our ambassadors, or Tribe Leaders as we call them, are fitness instructors, wellness professionals and just plain awesome women.
This week, we are excited to introduce you to one of our Tribe Leaders who has inspired us like crazy this month! Meet Brooke Shober.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Brooke Shober was born and raised in Spokane Washington, and now lives in Appomattox, Virginia with her husband and two sons. As a former sergeant in the U.S. Army, Brooke is tough as nails! This Veteran now owns her own studio, Challenger Yoga, has completed her Power Vinyasa RYT-200 and other fitness certificates, and is currently studying to get her bachelor’s degree in exercise science!
Q: Let’s start with lifestyle. How do you maintain balance?
A: That is something I will always struggle with. As a Libra I think one of my life goals is to keep trying to find that ideal balance in my day-to-day life. Discipline and maintaining a routine that includes proper balance of sleep, good nutrition and exercise are all key in maintaining balance. Those three things I pay attention to and it helps. A good self-care routine, an occasional caramel macchiato and daily yoga practice helps, as well.
Q: What advice can you give to someone looking to begin their fitness or wellness journey?
A: A journal, a support system and positivity. Journals are great for tracking food, writing goals and keeping track of progress. A friend or family member that will help support you can be the thing you may need most when you feel overwhelmed. The mental part of starting a fitness regime is often the hardest part. Staying positive and resorting back to your journal to look at reasons for motivation will help. If you’d like to become a yoga teacher, go for it! All the teachers I have met have said the same thing, “Teacher training is life changing.” You’ll have to take a YTT to find out.
Q: What does being a Tribe Leader mean to you?
A: It means that I can possibly inspire someone out there to practice. If it’s yoga or another form of fitness, anything to benefit their health! Participating in the YogaClub challenges are a great way to meet people from all around the world and that’s something that I miss from the Army. Having the opportunity to do that is rare, so I consider it an honor to be a part of such an amazing, motivating and humble tribe!
Q: What’s your favorite thing about YogaClub?
Each time I see a pink box on my doorstep, it’s a spark of excitement and makes me want to jump for joy. As a busy mom, I don’t have time to go shopping, let alone my fashion sense has always been lacking in that department. I have confidence that each box I open it’s personalized for me.
Q: What motivates you?
That’s a tricky question for me. As a driven person many people ask me how I’m so motivated. Really, I have to stop and think about what I’m motivated about. I have many reasons and people to be motivated for. My family, community and passion helps keep me motivated. Finding the drive to keep going while mentoring and coaching others while continuing to learn new things is a challenge, but well worth it.
Q: Alright, let’s mix it up with some fun, quick fire questions. Do you open your box right away or wait until you need a pick me up?
A: Right away!
Q: Do you have a quote or mantra that inspires you?
A: “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage” - by Brené Brown
Q: Current obsession?
A: Shampoo Bar by Lush.
Q: Favorite yoga pose?
A: Wheel or eagle.
Q: Favorite YogaClub brands?
A: Free people movement, Onzie, Threads for thought, Sadhana & Soybu.
